What is CBD Oil?
CBD oil is an essential oil which is extracted from the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. It is quickly gaining traction and popularity for its variety of therapeutic uses.
It is important to note that hemp oil and CBD oil are not the same product. Hemp oil is the oil extracted from hemp seeds and is generally used for cooking and as a dietary supplement. Hemp oil does not contain any CBD or other cannabinoids. CBD oil, on the other hand, is made by extracting the essential oils from the plant’s flower clusters and contains cannabinoids, terpenes and other active compounds.
CBD Oil works on our endocannabinoid system that we all have inside our bodies. We have 2 receptors for it - CB1 and CB2. They are primarily responsible for the regulation of appetite, immune system functions and pain management (Source).
So when our immune system and nervous system are weakened by daily stress, ailments, our lifestyle choices and diet, our brains are essentially “searching” for this other missing part that will help bring the body back into homeostasis. Think of it as two puzzle pieces that fit together.
That is why you hear of CBD Oil being so beneficial in so many ways - in helping with ADHD, PMS, migranes, stress, anxiety, arthritis, and more. CBD essentially fills in the missing pieces of your body to bring you back into homeostasis. Therefore, there is no one size fits all when it comes to dosing - each one of us is different and the benefits we’ll get from CBD is unique to each of us. Each one of us is missing a different puzzle piece.
When first starting to take CBD Oil, start off with a small dose, see how you feel, and increase as necessary. We particularly like this CBD dosing guide by Medium that goes into more detail.
